The local nonprofit Hope Community Outreach was awarded $5,000 from Southfield’s Integrity Insurance through the Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance Make More Happen Awards.

The money will be used to purchase supplies for community members in need, such as gloves, masks and hand sanitizer as well as boxes of non-perishable items and supplemental food and fixings for holiday meals.

If their story receives at least 500 shares on Facebook, the organization will be awarded another $5,000, which would be used to make urgent repairs on their building. To share their story, visit agentgiving.com/integrity-insurance.

Lena Teagarden founded Haven of Hope in 2003 with the help of her son Rico Camerone. The Sterling Heights based organization hosts a weekly distribution event that reaches about 200 people and provides upwards of 81,000 pounds of food each year. An annual clothing giveaway also outfits families with slightly used coats, gloves, sweaters and other items to keep them warm during the cold Michigan winter.

Camerone, who works as a Safeco independent agent for Integrity Insurance, said, “Volunteering at the nonprofit is an overall memorable and humbling experience. What I enjoy most is just serving with the other volunteers. I love how we serve with love.”

“We are truly grateful to Liberty Mutual and Safeco for the Make More Happen Award because it is an incredible opportunity for us to provide much needed funds to support Haven of Hope Community Outreach’s important work.”

Throughout 2020, Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance will select a total of 34 independent agents nationwide for a Make More Happen Award, donating up to $340,000 to the nonprofits they support. Agencies are eligible for the award by demonstrating their commitment to a specific nonprofit.
