El Paso police arrested an alleged car burglar accused of using a stolen credit/debit card 20 times last week.
Police officials noted that Mario Roberto Vargas, 39, was arrested on Thursday, less than a week after a magistrate judge had released him from jail on a personal recognizance bond on a separate theft case.
On Aug. 21, Vargas, nicknamed “Flaco” according to a jail log, was arrested by police on charges of felony theft and criminal trespass, a news release stated.
El Paso County Jail records shows bond was set at $300 on the trespass charge and $750 on the theft charge but Vargas was released by magistrate judge that same day on a personal recognizance, or PR, bond, which means he didn’t have to post any money.

On Aug. 26, Vargas allegedly burglarized a vehicle and made numerous purchases with a stolen credit/debit card, police said.
Vargas was arrested the next day on a charge of burglary of a vehicle and 20 counts of credit/debit card abuse. Police did not disclose what purchases he is accused of making.
Vargas, of the 2000 block of Pueblo Nuevo Circle in the Montwood area, is being held at the El Paso County Jail in Downtown under a total bond of $43,000, according to a jail log.
