Alex Telles in multi-million pound Manchester United price crunch as Porto face negotiation hard ball

Manchester United won’t meet Porto’s £18.5m demand for Alex Telles despite a £4.5m price drop already applied to the player’s value – according to a report.

Speaking in the Transfer Window podcast, Duncan Castles suggests the Portuguese club have dropped their asking price from £23m already this summer but United want to cut into that valuation further.

The move is part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘s desire to reconstruct his defense for the season ahead.

Jose Mourinho signing Diogo Dalot is now surplus to requirements and with talented younster Brandon Williams moved to deputy right-back, a space has opened up behind Luke Shaw.

RMC journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi reported last night that United had agreed a lengthy contract with the club.

He said :”Alex Telles has agreed a 5-year contract with Manchester United – Premier League club will now seek to agree a fee with FC Porto.

“PSG are also there, still thinking about whether or not to make a concrete move.”

Now, all that remain is for the two clubs to agree a fee, but United are looking to drive a hard bargain in the deal.

Castles said: “Manchester United are in the market for a left-back and have had left-backs offered to them.

“One of those offered to them is Alex Telles who Porto need to sell and wants to move elsewhere.

“At the time, Porto were asking for €25m for the player and I’m told that price has now dropped to €20m but I’m also told that Manchester United have indicated to Porto they are not prepared to pay that price for Telles.

Reguilon was thought to be close to a move to United

“They were offered Sergio Reguilon but I don’t think it’s surprising they would avoid a deal where Real Madrid wanted to have a buy-back clause in it.

“When we first talked about them adding a left-back, they wanted a younger player who would develop at Manchester United and be ready to play first-team football as and when necessary but not to be a replacement for Luke Shaw who they have faith in.

“So the idea was to pair the two in the position and move Brandon Williams over to be deputy right-back to Aaron Wan-Bissaka and sell Diogo Dalot.

“I think that’s where you should expect the primary focus should be.”
